New passport and ordinary renewal

A new passport costs ETB 5,000 on normal service. The same charge applies to renewal after expiry or when the passport has run out of pages 1. The official schedule does not publish a separate child price 1.

The urgent totals are ETB 20,000 for 5-day service and ETB 25,000 for 2-day service 1. These figures are total charges in the published table, not amounts to add to ETB 5,000 1.

Lost, damaged and corrected passports

Replacing a lost passport or a valid damaged passport costs ETB 13,000 normal, ETB 28,000 in 5 days or ETB 33,000 in 2 days 1.

A correction raises the amount. An expired passport with a correction costs ETB 12,500 normal, ETB 27,500 in 5 days or ETB 32,500 in 2 days. A lost or damaged passport with a correction costs ETB 20,500 normal, ETB 35,500 in 5 days or ETB 40,500 in 2 days 1.

How to apply and pay

You start on the official Immigration and Citizenship Service application portal. The portal shows four steps: submit online, attend verification on the appointment date, visit the selected branch for biometrics and collect the e-passport 3.

The service's application instructions say to select a payment option and pay within 3 hours of completing the online application. Print the appointment confirmation and bring it to the selected immigration office 2.

Documents for a new passport

Applicants below age 40 provide an authenticated birth certificate. The service asks every applicant for a renewed Kebele identity card. A temporary identity card needs a supporting letter from the Kebele that issued it 2.

On the appointment date, bring the original renewed Kebele identity card, the original birth certificate when required and the printed appointment confirmation. Fingerprints and a photograph are taken in person 2.

Validity and page count

The current fee article does not state passport validity or page count 1. The application instructions do not supply those details either 2. This page records them as not published rather than using an unofficial source.
