The Federal Police (Polícia Federal) issue passports in Brazil and list these fees ¹.

Validity for adults and children

The fee is the same for every age ¹. A passport is valid for 10 years from age 18 and five years from age four to 18 ¹. Younger children get shorter passports: one year under age one, two years from one to two, three years from two to three and four years from three to four ¹. A passport cannot be extended, so you apply for a new one when it expires ².

An emergency passport is valid for up to one year ¹. Foreign nationals who qualify for a Brazilian passport for foreigners get one valid for up to two years ¹.

Urgent passport

The normal delivery time is six working days from your in-person appointment ². The service page puts it at six to 10 working days in most cases ¹. If you can prove you need the passport sooner, you can get an urgent or emergency passport for an extra R$77.17 ².

How to pay

If you pay but do not apply, the fee stays usable for five years. After five years it can no longer be used or refunded ².

How to apply

You fill in the online form, pay the fee and then book an in-person appointment at a Federal Police office ¹. Everyone must attend in person, including children under 18 ¹. Staff check your documents and take your fingerprints and photo ¹.

Applying from abroad

Brazilians abroad apply at a Brazilian consulate ³. The fee is a consular fee in the local currency of that consulate, and each consulate publishes its own instructions ³.
